Amtrak 188’s train engineer has been identified as Brandon Bostian, 32. With the preliminary investigation report stating that the train was going 106 mph, two times its normal 50 mph, Bostian has decided not to speak with the police. The ‘black box’ shows that the engineer applied the emergency brake right before the derailment, which slowed the train down to 102 mph.

While he has handed over his cell to the police, Bostian refuses to speak with them on the matter. WHY? According to his lawyer, Robert Goggin, he can not remember what happened due to the suffering of a concussion he obtained during the crash.

Yeah, sure. While he walked away with a slight concussion, eight of the passengers on the train lost their lives. Dr. Derrick Griffith, 42, Rachel Jacobs, Abid Gilani, Jim Gaines, 48, Justin Zemzer, 20 and Bob Gildersleeve have been identified as six of the eight.

Dr. Griffith was the acting dean of student affairs at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York, while Justin Zemzeer served as a midshipman at the Naval Academy, and the latest victim to be identified was Gildersleeve, a food-safety worker at the Ecolab in Maryland; he was married with two children, ages 16 and 13.
