IFWT_JPP injured

Jason Pierre-Paul has been very elusive since he suffered a fireworks accident on Fourth of July that lead to one of his fingers being amputated.  The Giants were in the midst of offering him a major contract which they have since retracted but now they’ve been unable to communicate with JPP at all.

It’s been very frustrating,” Giants co-owner Steve Tisch said in an article posted on Sunday. “I’ve reached out to Jason. I’ve not heard back from Jason. I’m not going to hold that against him, I understand his situation is difficult, complicated, and I’m sure very confusing to him personally. Just as John Mara expressed, [coach] Tom [Coughlin] expressed, [G.M.] Jerry [Reese] has expressed, [senior vice president of medical services] Ronnie [Barnes], my first priority and my first message is that I care about him as a man. I think whatever issues he has to deal with, I’m sure are complicated, frustrating and difficult. My message to him is get better, we cheer for you. Ronnie and our doctors have access to the best doctors, if not in New York City and the country, possibly in the world. He should take advantage of that. Let us see you sooner than later. You’re not going to be judged, you’re going to be helped.”

The Giants may be willing to help Pierre-Paul. The question is whether they’d exercise their prerogative to pay him if he shows up, signs his $14.8 million franchise tender, and then lands on the Non-Football Injury list to start the regular season.  They apparently aren’t.

And so Pierre-Paul will wait to show up until he knows he can pass a physical and play. If, along the way, the guys who sign the checks become sufficiently “frustrated” to withdraw the franchise tender, that would be an extra benefit for Pierre-Paul, who then would become a free agent.
