Thirteen years ago, a mother’s worst nightmare occurred. Following a then recent split, toddler, Julian Hernandez and his dad left Birmingham, Alabama to start their new life, without the child’s mom. After a court-order that demanded Julian’s father, Bobby, to return the child to his mom, Bobby fled with baby Julian, essentially kidnapping his own child.

In a recent Reddit post, a teen who’s age lines up with the missing child’s timeline, asked how he could change his name and social security number back to its original, which sparked attention from state officials.

Julian had been applying for college scholarships, when the SSN he was using could not be verified. He and his high school guidance counselor were looking for information on the defected number when they found his information on a missing children’s database.

Julian did not seem bothered by the revelation. Instead, he replied to other Reddit members and recanted memories from that time.

“I do remember some things about my mother. I remember she was still young at the time, probably early 20’s. See, my mom and dad had a deal that if they broke up, my dad would take me, but … my dad got a call from a judge ordering him to return me to my mother, and that was when he decided to run away. I remember that moment so well, but I never knew who he was talking to or why until recently.”

Julian also explained that he isn’t mad at his father and even praised Bobby for his parenting skills.

“My father has done his best to deal with the mistakes he has made and he clearly regrets them/ He has raised me well. I wouldn’t have done so well in school without his pressure, and I am perfectly clean and sober without any criminal records.”

While Julian may not be upset with his father, the government is not taking this situation lightly. Bobby was arrested this week for allegedly falsifying documents, as per USA Today. He is being held on a $250,000 bond and may face up to 10 years in prison.
