Looks like top of the line brands are putting their foot down. According to business of fashion Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and other luxury brands are all suing Alibaba Group Holding Ltd for promoting the sale of counterfeit merchandise. The brands, also including Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta, had accused the world’s largest online retailer of trademark infringement for letting 31 companies sell knockoff goods, damaging their brands sales and reputation.

A judge ordered all that are involved to come to a settlement according to BOF. Alibaba founder, Jack Ma said that he would rather lose the case than settle. It looks like Ma and these major companies wont come to a settlement anytime soon. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development stated that the worlds economy loses up to $250 billion due to knock off companies selling counterfeit items, mainly hand bags and wallets.

Do you think this is a petty crime or should websites like Alibaba.com should pay up?
