Just when it seemed like the trend was over, Oscar winner Sandra Bullock shocked the world adopting her second African-American baby . . .this time a baby girl. The actress opened up to In People Magazine’s most recent issue to express her happiness and excitement. She described her family saying it “looks nothing like she ever dreamed,” but that her house is filled with lots of love. How awesome is that?

Bullock adopted 3-year-old Laila from Louisiana, where the child was in foster care after being removed from her home. In her interview she describes her decision to adopt again being based on her 5-year-old son Louis’s (the African-American baby boy she adopted from birth) desire to have a sibling. After long thought, Bullock decided to grant her son’s wishes so that he could have a sibling bond like she had growing up.
Check out the notes from People’s editor:
When rumors initially began to spread about the adoption of a new baby, Bullock completely denied them. There are many privacy restrictions on adoption so, following procedure, she had to wait until the time was right to finally share her excitement.
Although some may disagree, it’s a respectable act for Bullock to have adopted a Black American child; this group has the lowest rate of adoption in the country and many African-American foster children remain in foster care until adulthood.
This is an issue bigger than color and every child deserves a fair opportunity to be in a loving home. What’s most important is that these children receive the love and nurturance necessary to develop emotionally and mentally. Besides, Louis is black so why not give him a sister that he has something in common with naturally?
Bullock told People,
When I look at Laila, there’s no doubt in my mind that she was supposed to be here. The exact right children came to me at the exact right time.
Laila is a beautiful baby girl and we’re sure Sandra Bullock will do an amazing job raising her into a woman of high caliber like herself.
