Just yesterday after posting Damian Lillard’s new track “Talk To Em”, I said he was the best rapping athlete I’ve heard.  Now there’s reportedly a war over the Portland Trail Blazers star, as several “major” record labels are vying to sign him according to his agent.

Lillard initially showed off his love for rap by starting the 4-bar Friday freestyle challenge on social media.  He would kick out 4 bars and then post the best bars from his fans.  He also included other musical athletes like Stephen Jackson and DeSean Jackson.

He’s also racked up more than 4.5 million plays on his SoundCloud page, including “Talk To ‘Em” which has more than 40,000 plays and was released yesterday.

Now, the record labels want a piece of the action, with his agent Aaron Goodwin telling TMZ Sports they’ve been approached by “several major labels” though he wouldn’t specify which ones.

Goodwin says Lillard is interested but doesn’t want go down that road until after the NBA season is over.

“We’ve put it on hold until the summer,” Goodwin says.  “We will explore those options versus starting his own label. A distribution partner is really what’s needed.”

Smart, a lot of artists lately are going the distribution route.
