The league is turning into more star players joining up to play together rather than against each other.  The NBA is now all about “super teams.”  There’s one player, however, who says he will never join in, Damian Lillard.

“I really don’t care about the chance they give us.  If somebody wants to go join people and do that, then it’s not against the rules, they can do it.  It’s just more pressure to win when you do it.  Some people say ‘ah they’re just joining up, they had to do this to win it’, but we play the game to win it. So when people do it that’s their decision.

I wouldn’t do it [join a super team], that’s just not who I am. I might have too much pride for that or be too much of a competitor where I couldn’t bring myself to do it, but it also makes it more fun.  You get to take a monster down and that’s always fun.

I love being an underdog.  I love being the smaller man.  I love to take that challenge.”

Lillard is indeed a true competitor but Kevin Durant said the same things a few years ago and many of us thought he was too much of competitor to join a ready-made championship team, but then he went and chose the Golden State Warriors in free agency.  Lillard, however, made it clear that he will not go back on his words.
