A 16 year old high school soccer player in Georgia was knocked unconscious during a recent game after accidentally being kicked in the head. The situation was very scary for Reuben Nsemoh as he stopped breathing on the field multiple times and wound up in a coma. He is doing better now but his family was shocked when he woke up come his coma and was speaking fluent Spanish, despite barely ever speaking the language prior to that.

“I was in shock and panic,” Nsemoh’s coach, Bruno Kalonji, told WSB-TV. Kalonji said Nsemoh stopped breathing several times after the blow. “He will start coming back, then he will throw up. It was a sequence of things I’ve never seen, it was bad.”

His parents said when he woke from the coma, he wasn’t able to speak to speak English at all but spoke Spanish as if he had done so for years. As the days went by, his English slowly came back and the Spanish speaking slowly stopped.

This was the third concussion for Rueben, who had dreams of playing soccer professionally but for now he and his family are focused on his health and unfortunately the medical bills that are piling up.

The family had setup a GoFundMe account to help with the bills as they struggle to get by.
