Welp. It was all good for Brendan Dassey as he was about to be released from prison. We now learn he will be behind bars a bit longer than expected. A federal appeals court has ruled that Wisconsin prison officials should ignore the ruling of a lower court, which ordered the release of Brendan Dassey.
The appeals court ruled that it would be entirely wrong to release the 27-year-old until prosecutors have had the chance to appeal the ruling that the conviction was unconstitutional because it was based on an involuntary confession. It has been argued that Dassey confessed to murder after being interrogated by police with no adult in the room. He was then convicted with his uncle, Steven Avery. Dassey has been locked up since 2006 for the murder of Teresa Halbach.
