IFWT Celebrates Black History Month: Honoring Thurgood Marshall

Thurgood Marshall was the first African American to serve as a United States Supreme Court justice. Before becoming a judge, Marshall was a lawyer who argued many cases in front of the Supreme Court including Brown v. Board of Education. Because he argued the most cases ever in front of the Supreme Court, he was nominated by President Kennedy as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. IFWT Celebrates Black History Month: Honoring Benjamin Bradley

Benjamin Bradley was born a slave in 1830 in Maryland, although it was against the law for a slave to be educated, Bradley was educated by his master’s children. He would develop a skill in mathematics and for engineering. During his teenage years, Bradley began to develop what would become the first ever steam engine. He would eventually hold a job position at the United States Naval Academy were he would further develop the steam engine. IFWT Celebrates Black History Month: Honoring Condoleezza Rice

Condoleezza Rice served as the 66th United States Secretary of State, and was the second person to hold that office in the administration of President George W. Bush. Rice was the first female African-American secretary of state, as well as the second African American (after Colin Powell), and the second woman (after Madeleine Albright). Rice was President Bush’s National Security Advisor during his first term, making her the first woman to serve in that position. She has done so much for both women and African Americans in politics, so today and everyday, we honor her contributions to society! Read more about her below! IFWT Team

Happy Birthday to Kurt Cobain, the late lead singer of the 90s grunge band, Nirvana. Cobain took his life in 1994 at the young age of 27.
