DeRay Mckesson Sues Baton Rouge Police Over Arrest During Alton Sterling Protest

DeRay McKesson, a prominent figure in the Black Lives Matter movement, was arrested along with 200 people during peace protests from July 6 – 11 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and according to him, unlawfully. He’s not letting this one go as he moves forward to sue the police force himself.

After joining thousands to protest the unjust killing of Alton Sterling, Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson was arrested for pretty much nothing besides protesting. Apparently, police were provoking folks all night during these peaceful protests and Deray was just one of them, but he has now been released on bond. We’ve got the breakdown after the jump.

Last night, #BlackLivesMatter activist DeRay Mckesson was arrested during a peaceful protest in Baton Rouge. Like thousands across the nation DeRay was contributing in spreading awareness to the injustices that members of the minority community go through at the hands of U.S. police. Unfortunately the protesting led to his arrest. Now many celebreties are tweeting #FreeDeRay in support of him and his brave efforts. Nearly 200 People Arrested Over Night While Protesting Police Brutality

Protests continue across the U.S. and momentum is not slipping anytime soon. Mirroring the civil rights movement, thousands have gathered over the weekend to take a stance against police brutality. In the wake of the thousands which gathered across the United States to take a stance nearly 200 protesters were arrested overnight. At least 198 people were arrested between New York, Chicago, St. Paul Minnesota, and Baton Rouge.
