With the 2011 regular season in sight, our voters (’s John Clayton,’s Ashley Fox, AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky, NFC West blogger Mike Sando and AFC North blogger James Walker) have taken the first stab at separating the contenders from the pretenders. Predictably, the defending Super Bowl champs were held in high regard, but, as you’ll see, not every playoff team from 2010 was afforded the same kind of respect.  Here is the preseason edition of’s NFL Power Rankings.

Big Boi to Headline Show at 2011 ESPN X Games

Big Boi will be headed for the hills (or mountains, rather) at the end of this month, where the rapper will headline a concert during ESPN’s 15th annual X Games…a part of the Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert. The games do down from January 27th through the 30th in Aspen, with the concert happening on the 29th. “We are honored to welcome Big Boi to Aspen/Snowmass during the biggest weekend of the winter season,” said John Rigney, the VP of Sales & Events at Aspen Skiing Company. “What an amazing way for our community to celebrate 10 years of hosting ESPN’s X Games.” Should be a cool show! @MarisaMendez

ESPN Announcer Ron Franklin Pulled For Calling Sideline Reporter Jeannine Edwards ‘Sweetcakes’ & then ‘A**hole’

Longtime ESPN announcer Ron Franklin was pulled off ESPN’s Saturday Fiesta Bowl radio broadcast by ESPN executives after an incident involving the veteran broadcaster and ESPN-TV sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards. Scheduled to work on the ESPN-TV broadcast of the Chick-fil-A Bowl Friday, Franklin and Edwards were part of a production meeting before the game that was also attended by ESPN announcers Ed Cunningham and Rod Gilmore. During the meeting, the subject of Gilmore’s wife Marie being elected Alameda (CA) mayor came up.
