Egypt Declares Mohamed Morsi President

After ousting former President Hosni Mubarak Egypt hosted their first democratic election last week and announced that Dr. Mohamed Morsi as president. Morsi, who is a member of the Islamic Brotherhood, was running against Dr. Ahmed Shafik, who worked under Mubarak’s regime as Prime Minister. Morsi had a total of 13 million votes while Shafik had only 12 million. Morsi will be sworn into office within the next two days and the military and police will be heading into the street to get the unruly crowd under control. Hopefully Egypt’s government will gain some control over the crowd and nothing will change in Egypt’s peaceful relationship with the rest of the world especially since Morsi received his degree from the US and both of his children are American citizens. Much like the United States, Morsi must have new rules and laws approved by in a democratic way so hopefully there won’t be any extreme laws in place. Read more below. Julie1205
