48-year-old husband appeared in court this week to plead guilty to a charge of indecent assault…
According to the Australian newspaper, The Mercury, the man had been drinking the night of the June 2009 incident in Hobart, on the island of Tasmania.
He and his wife, had been having marital problems. After drinking one night, he went to her home and found her laying in bed.
The man asked her to roll over onto her stomach, but she refused, the newspaper reports. He then forcibly flipped her, pulled down her pants, then kissed her behind while she screamed, “No, no!”
The couple’s children stormed into the room, and the wife dismissed the incident, claiming the husband had merely tickled her. The man, however, made a vulgar comment, according to testimony in court.
“My initial thoughts are that a period of custody is an appropriate sentence but I need some time to think about that,” the judge said, but the case was adjourned until January 24.
According to the defense attorney, the husband had meant the act to be playful to cheer up his wife, who he said had been depressed. He admitted, however, that he may have gone too far.
