Peyton Manning received stem cell therapy for his neck, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports. Not available in the United States, Manning sought the stem cell therapy in Europe in the hopes to avoid a third surgical procedure on his neck.

Apparently, the stem cell therapy failed to do the trick. Manning had his third round of next surgery in early September. His May surgery, his second procedure, corrected a bulging disc in his neck. The third procedure was a “single level anterior fusion.”

Though a success, the surgery will sideline Manning for two to three months, and he likely will not play in 2011. The Colts have struggled without the face of their franchise, falling to 0-2 after a loss to the Cleveland Browns today.

Manning signed a five-year, $90 million contract extension at the end of July, a deal on par with the one Tom Brady agreed to with the Patriots last year.
