MTV2 plans to resurrect the game show “Hollywood Squares” with a twist: producers will fill many of the nine spots in the giant tic-tac-toe grid with figures from the hip-hop world, the network announced on Friday. The new show will be called “Hip Hop Squares” and will be hosted by Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg.

As in the old game show, the stars will be asked trivia questions and contestants will judge the veracity of their answers. The network has lined up well-known rappers for the show, including Fat Joe, Biz Markie, Ghostface Killah, Mac Miller and Machine Gun Kelly. The comedian Nick Cannon and the professional skateboarder Bam Margera (perhaps best known for his appearances in the “Jackass” movies) will also appear. “The show will refresh an iconic format,” said Paul Ricci, the head of programming for MTV2, adding the program is “more party than game show.” The show, which will have its premiere on May 22 at 11 p.m., will be part of the network’s Tuesday night programming block intended to lure male viewers. No word yet on who will fill Paul Lynde’s spot in the center square.
