First Uber pulled it’s Taxi app in NYC because the app had some hiccups with NYC officials and it looks like Square is having the same issue with the Taxi Commission.  Square the mobile payment company from Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey ended its pilot program after NYC officials said the payments methods were not ready.

“Square has learned a great deal about the specific needs of taxis over the course of more than 28,000 rides and nearly 100,000 miles traveled, and Square looks forward to further improving our products and making commerce and transportation even easier for millions or riders and drivers in New York and around the country,” Dana Wagner, Square’s general counsel, wrote in the letter.

The commission in March approved Square’s plan to replace the televisions in 30 taxicabs with iPads. As part of the pilot program, which was slated to run until February, Square’s payment technology was deployed alongside the tablets, giving riders the ability to swipe their credit card at any point during the trip.
