Produced by Plum TV’s new co-president, Morgan Hertzan, and award-winning former “60 Minutes” producer Shawn Efran, “Special Spaces” might be the best new property show on the air. By focusing on the owner or creator of a space, who gives the video tours of the structure, it offers a more personal experience for the viewer.

Hertzan — the founder of LXTV and creating executive producer of NBC’s “Open House NY,” one of the highest-rated shelter shows of all time — thought home shows needed a new edge.

“Home-design content is so much about the space and nothing about the people,” says Hertzan, who branched out on his own a year ago after selling LXTV to NBC. “There is little on television that focuses on why someone did this. The idea behind ‘Special Spaces’ is that the people behind these amazing homes are more interesting than the spaces on their own. Who they are, where they come from, why they did this and why they love the space so much. That’s the idea here.”

Each segment is roughly four minutes long. Episodes air on television and online, available either through cable providers who carry Plum TV or on YouTube.com and Hulu.com by searching for “Special Spaces, Plum TV.”

“Launching a YouTube show without a television component is like launching a television channel without a Web component,” says Hertzan. “We want to build a next-gen network for the portable generation where we premiere the content the same moment online and on television. That’s rare.
