The A$AP clique is known for their diverse fashion sense, their dope rhymes, and sometimes, their over-sized skirts. Unfortunately, not everyone seems to understand the Harlem-raised rapper’s fashion statements. After numerous people criticized the A$AP members to be “gay” due to the clothes they choose to wear, both A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg had a few words for the haters.
After A$AP Rocky pulled a Kanye and started rockin’ the skirt, people started to question the rapper’s sexuality. Both Rocky & Ferg had to address these alleged rumors, clearing up any confusion. During a recent interview with Complex, A$AP Ferg had this to say:
“A$AP is comfortable being black sheep. We were always weirdos. We wanted to be unique. People didn’t accept us in Harlem. They were scared to stand next to Jeremy Scott. Why? Because he’s gay? He’s one of the best designers of our generation. When Rocky wore the Ann Demeulemeester shirt on BET, people called it a dress. It’s some high fashion sh*t, a $30,000 long-sleeve shirt. We’re on that different type of fly. People who call us gay just aren’t open-minded.”
Nicely said. But A$AP Rocky had to also clear the air when he was interviewed on RapFix Live. The cross-dressing and gay rumors sparked up after he appeared on 106 & Park in December in what many said was a “dress.” Check out A$AP Rocky giving his input on his often-mistaken fashion sense.
“I was just on ‘106 & Park’ the other day with an oversized shirt on and everybody talkin’ about I wore a dress. That’s foul and mine was long-sleeve. If fashion is your life and that’s what you like and that’s what you’re about, express yourself, wear what you want and nothing matters, nobody else opinions matters. Be the person that starts the trend. You’re gonna have times where people, they gonna try to joke on you, they’re gonna try to play you and all that, that just comes with life. You gotta keep it striving and always know that if they’re talking, you doin’ somethin’ right.”
