Los Angeles Lakers v Orlando Magic

Phil Jackson was sure to reiterate that he has no intentions on returning to coaching but he did shed some insight on his protege Brian Shaw and where he should go.  Shaw’s name has come up often in coaching searches, even as Jackson’s successor for the Lakers but still he is without a head coaching position.  This particular postseason left plenty of worthy vacancies open.  Read more after the jump.

“I think that Brian might have an opportunity but I just want it to be the right one for him,” said Jackson. “The last conversation I had, I told him to make sure he doesn’t end up in a no-win situation like Charlotte.”

To further his point, Jackson mentioned how Kurt Rambis’ lack of success with the bumbling Minnesota Timberwolves may have left him out of the mix for future HC opportunities.

“I say that with great respect for my former assistant Kurt Rambis, who ended up in Minnesota, didn’t have a lot of success there and hasn’t gotten mentioned in recent years since,” said Jackson. “I think Brian can do a really good job with [the Clippers]. However I don’t think [Donald] Sterling will hire him because he’s always a guy who goes against the grain.”

Speaking of “against the grain” moves, the Brooklyn Nets hired Jason Kidd, who just retired, to coach their team.

“I wanted to see [Shaw] have the [Brooklyn] Nets job, I thought that would have been the perfect job for him,” he said.

The Memphis Grizzlies, Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets still have openings that could be filled by Shaw, if he doesn’t end up with the Clips.
