45 year old legal activist, Andrea Sloan has tried to convince the BioMarin pharmacy company to sign off on their permission to allow her use one of their drugs, PARP inhibitor BMN 673, a type of medicine that is yet to be fully approved by the Food and Department Administraion. The FDA however has granted Sloan a waver of “compassionate use” if the BioMarin pharmaceutical signs off as well, as the cancer survivor has become increasingly sick and in need of an immediate solution!

“BioMarin’s response to Andrea so far is that while the company does embrace “compassionate use” policies, they do not have one for the particular drug that could save Andrea’s life,” states her official change.org petition article.

Yet BioMarin’s CEO seems to take a more vocal approach as Jean-Jacques Bienaime has “started to attack her supporters personally in emails. He even forwarded one email to her supporters that called Sloan “a spoiled, petulant brat!”

“In another exchange, which was later sent to HuffPost, Bienaime compared Sloan’s quest to that of people who lobbied for insurance companies to cover bone marrow transplants for women with breast cancer “before there was any clear evidence of clinical benefits” in clinical trials. “Ignorance kills,” he wrote. “Please inform yourself before insulting people you do not know about topics you know nothing about,” reported HuffPost

Andrea Sloan dedicates her life to helping others in need as she serves as the Executive Director of the Texas Advocacy Project — and organization which provides free legal services for low income victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
