It will never be okay to make a joke about Eric Garner, the man who lost his life due to excessive and BANNED force from the police.  Pittsburgh Penguins analyst, Stan Savran of 970 ESPN and others, made a terrible joke about the “I Can’t Breathe” shirts while making an analogy about the Penguins’ bad play.

While talking about the Penguins’ ineffectiveness during the opening period, Stan Savran attempted to make a joke (or something) about the throng of athletes who have shown support for Eric Garner by wearing ‘I Can’t Breathe’ t-shirts. It was in very poor taste and the reaction from his co-host, Jay Caufield, pretty much sums up how terrible it was.

Stan later took to this Twitter account and apologized for the distasteful joke and then retweeted fans who sang his praises.

Many athletes have taken a stand, supporting Eric Garner.  Players like Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Damian Lillard and much more have worn the “I Can’t Breathe” shirts.  Daniel Pantoleo is the officer who was let go by the grand jury after being seen on tape using a banned chokehold on Garner.  “I Can’t Breathe” were his last words heard on the tape.
