IFWT_Steve Nash Mark Cuban Dirk Nowitzki

Steve Nash finally announced his retirement from the NBA.  Although his last couple of years were marred by injury, we can’t forget that Nash was the best point guard in the league for quite some time.  For that, many players around the league have celebrated Nash and sang his praises after the announcement of his retirement.

One such person was Dirk Nowitzki, the Dallas Mavericks power forward and Nash’s teammate from 1999-2004. Nowitzki went on the ESPN NBA Insiders podcast and had this to say about his former teammate (via Amin Elhassan):

He overcame a lot in his career, being injured, and being slow, and white and unathletic

Of course it was a joke, apart of Dirk’s humor.  Being “white and unathletic” is a synonymous stereotype.  Nowitzki even made a joke a few months back about himself, saying his infamous one-legged fadeaway is the white version of Hakeem Olajuwon’s dream shake because he didn’t have the athleticism.

Some people of course didn’t get the humor in the joke but we all know Nash is one of the best point guards ever in the league.  It’s a shame Nash and Nowitzki’s peaks didn’t coincide, they would’ve been a crazy duo on the Mavericks.
