Birth control is not preventing pregnancy anymore, it’s causing strokes!

26, year old Jordan Ward encountered a near death experience two months ago due to her birth control. No it was not an unplanned pregnancy but a stroke! Ward, say’s she was so busy planning a wedding and at work that she kept suffering from headaches, blurred vision , vomiting and nausea. Because of the over load with planning and working she thought it was just stress. But the symptoms where very consistent.

“Honestly, I was just very overwhelmed with a tension headache”

says Ward.

She refused to see a doctor because it wasn’t that serious to her. It was Ward’s fiancee that forced her to go to the emergency room. At first doctors thought she had minor migraines and sent her home. But as before the symptoms persisted. Ward and her fiancee returned to the emergency room the next day where the doctor finally ran a CAT scan. It revealed that Ward had suffered a stroke! A large clot blocked a host of veins in her brain.

“When I did get the news, I was in shock, I’m 26 years old”

said Ward

Dr. George Teitelbaum, the medical director of the Providence Neurovascular Center, said oral contraceptives containing hormones raise the risk for dangerous blood clots, especially if a woman smokes, which Ward did.

“The brain swelling can become severe enough that somebody can be thrown into a coma. They can even die from this,”

Teitelbaum said.

Teitelbaum and his team removed the clot during a endovascular procedure. Eight days later Ward was released from the hospital with no more symptoms.

“I’m so thankful for so many things, but especially for the fact that I still get to marry the man of my dreams,”

Ward said.

Ward urges all women who take birth control pills to talk to their doctor to understand their risks.

“I would just want people to really read those label signs. Listen, dig deeper, try to gain an understanding, because you could save your own life,”

she said.
