The worldwide manhunt for Mexican drug lord El Chapo came to an end on January 8th, after he was captured in the Mexican city of Los Mochis. As expected, El Chapo did not go down without a fight and was only arrested after an intense shoot-out between the Mexican navy and his bodyguards. He was found in home reportedly, full of weapons, including a “rocket-propelled grenade launcher.” Upon his capture, the President of Mexico tweeted about the arrest saying,

“Mission accomplished. We have him. I want to inform the Mexicans Joaquin Guzman Loera [El Chapo] has been arrested.”

After being on the run (again) for almost six months, the Mexican navy was able to track down El Chapo and bombard the house he was hiding in. The shootout was captured on body cam and the footage has recently been released.

El Chapo is currently back in the same Mexican prison he escaped from and is facing drug-trafficking charges.
