In a new lawsuit filed by former bass player for The Roots, Leonard “Hub” Hubbard, he alleges that the group cut him out of his share of their earnings per his original contract with them, after he was forced to leave the group because of a bout with cancer.

Hub helped form the group back in 1992, and stayed with them until multiple myeloma forced him to leave in 2007. According to Hub, his contract called for him to continue getting paid as a co-owner, but a former manager for the group sent him a letter in 2014 threatening that he was going to lose his health insurance and his cut of the band’s revenues.

Hub is suing founding members Questlove and Black Thought and their current manager for an unspecified amount.
