How sick would you be spending 5 months in Rikers Island for just a $2 bail? I would be highly upset. Aitabdel Salem is now blaming his lawyer after he was stuck in Rikers from Nov. 2014 to April 2015.

Theodore Goldbergh, who along with fellow attorney Glenn Hardy is currently representing Salem released a statement saying,

“You can’t do what you don’t know and if you’re a defendant in a criminal case you certainly have a right to rely upon the system what your next court date is,”

Salem was jailed on $25,000 bail for attacking an NYPD officer who caught him stealing from Zara. What he didn’t know was that he was ordered to be released after prosecutors didn’t land an indictment. Salem was still responsible for minor tampering and mischief charges which means $2 and he would have been free. Salem’s old lawyer Stephen Pokart never informed him.
