Reggie Bush says he’s going to forfeit his Heisman Trophy

New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush has released this statement on the Heisman Trophy: “One of the greatest honors of my life was winning the Heisman Trophy in 2005. For me, it was a dream come true. But I know that the Heisman is not mine alone. Far from it. I know that my victory was made possible by the discipline and hard work of my teammates, the steady guidance of my coaches, the inspiration of the fans, and the unconditional love of my family and friends. And I know that any young man fortunate enough to win the Heisman enters into a family of sorts. Each individual carries the legacy of the award and each one is entrusted with its good name. It is for these reasons that I have made the difficult decision to forfeit my title as Heisman winner of 2005. The persistent media speculation regarding allegations dating back to my years at USC has been both painful and distracting. In no way should the storm around these allegations reflect in any way on the dignity of this award, nor on any other institutions or individuals. Nor should it distract from outstanding performances and hard-earned achievements either in the past, present or future. For the rest of my days, I will continue to strive to demonstrate through my actions and words that I was deserving of the confidence placed in me by the Heisman Trophy Trust. I would like to begin in this effort by turning a negative situation…

Detained US Hiker Released From Iranian Jail

Sarah Shourd, one of three American hikers detained for more than a year in Iran, has been released from jail and is expected to leave the country later today, according to Iranian state media. Press TV, the country’s official English-language news service, today announced that Shourd had been handed over to the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, which represents U.S. interests in the country. The news channel said the 32-year-old was freed on a bail of $500,000, and — according to an unnamed Swiss diplomat — was expected to fly home in a few hours. Tehran’s chief prosecutor Abbas Jafari-Dowlatabadi said later that the bail had been paid to an Iranian bank in Muscat, Oman, according to The Associated Press. But it’s not yet clear who made that payment, as Shourd’s family previously said they were struggling to raise the money. lawyer also confirmed her release during a telephone call with Reuters. “I am inside Evin prison, doing her paperwork. She has been released and is heading toward the Swiss Embassy,” Masoud Shafii told the news service, speaking from the notorious Tehran lockup where Shourd and the two other Americans — Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, both 28 — have been held for 14 months. The attorney was later quoted by state-run news agency IRNA saying Shourd intended to travel to Oman where her mother was waiting for her, but conflicting reports said she would fly to the Qatari capital of Doha. The three graduates of the University of California at Berkeley were arrested…

Randy Moss in post game interview talks about himself instead of win,”…probably my last year as a Patriot”

The Patriots did just about everything right in manhandling the Cincinnati Bengals, 38-24, in their season opener at Gillette Stadium yesterday. Everything went according to the game plan — until Randy Moss stepped up to the podium in the postgame interview room. Instead of talking about his team’s big victory or his five catches for 59 yards, Moss spoke about feeling unappreciated and not receiving the contract extension he feels he deserves from the Patriots. “I want to be here as a Patriot,” Moss said. “I love being here, but I just think from a business standpoint this will probably be my last year as a Patriot and I’m not retiring. I’m still going to play some football.” Not sure if that was the right time or place?!?! —Sabrina B.

Yoshihiko Takahashi chuckles politely when asked if he is weary of having the same conversation with passengers every day as he shuttles them around Tokyo in his white and blue all-electric taxi. How often do you have to recharge? How far can you go? Does this car really have no emissions? Those are just some of the queries he has grown used to during his 90-day trial use of three zero-emission taxis, and a designated battery-switch station in the first undertaking of its kind in the world.
