Mikhail Prokhorov set a five-year maximum for a championship when he bought the Nets in 2010. He even pledged to get married if his team didn’t win a title in that span. He went all out in 2012 trying to build a championship team but just ended up with the most expensive payroll + luxury tax in NBA history.
