(Photos) First Official Cast Photo For N.W.A. Movie Released + Release Date!

Previously reported that classically trained actor Marcus Callender would play Dr. Dre in the upcoming N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” it appears there have been some switches behind the scenes. That role will now be filled by Corey Hawkins, known for roles in films like Iron Man 3 and Wu Is Dead. Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson, Jr. and Jason Mitchell remain in their roles as Ice Cube and Eazy-E, respectively. We’ve also learned the F. Gary Gray-directed film’s official release date will be August 14, 2015! Can’t wait!

(Video) Legendary Ed Lover Explains Why He Wouldn’t Go Back To “Yo! MTV Raps”

You had to be there for the early days of this amazing culture. What helped it thrive was MTV’s “Yo! MTV Raps.” Co-hosted by Ed Lover, the show was a platform specifically for hip hop. Unfortunately, you’d be hard pressed to see MTV play videos anymore — especially like before. Well, one TMZ cameraman caught up to Mr. Lover and asked if he’d take part in the resurrection of the show. Check his response after the jump.

(Photo) The First Official Pic Of The NWA Bio Pic Cast!

(Photos) The NWA Biopic Cast Has Been Finalized! Check Out Who’s Playing Who!

There are three people that must agree to everything on the upcoming NWA biopic “Straight Outta Compton” (Cube, Dre and Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Wright,) so it’s been a LONG time coming (five years and four different writers) but finally, the main roles have been casted and the production is about to be under way! As previously reported, Ice Cube’s 23-year-old son O’Shea Jackson Jr. will be playing his father. Today, we’ve learned that classically trained actor Marcus Callender will play Dr. Dre, while the even lesser-known Jason Mitchell will play Eazy-E. Both actors have had bit parts in a couple of TV shows, but nothing major at all, so this will definitely be huge for them both. Dre was lobbying for Fruitvale Station actor Michael B. Jordan to play him, but he had a prior commitment with a Fantastic Four reboot. F. Gary Gray (who’s previously worked with Cube on Friday) will hold directorial duties, and principal photography is set to begin in less than two months. I can’t WAIT to see this!
