It’s been 20 years since the release of Nas’ Illmatic album. With its re-release of the historical piece and the one-night only showing of the Time is Illmatic documentary coming, the proper thing to do would be to continue on with the celebrations. Hit the jump for more.


Nas ‘Time Is Illmatic’ Documentary To Air For Only ONE NIGHT In The U.S.

Nas has his fans beyond excited for the release of his documentary Time Is Illmatic about his classic Hip-Hop album, Illmatic. We’ve seen the trailer, but now we’re ready for the full thing! The mini-movie, which made it’s debut at the Tribeca Film Festival back in April, is set to hit over 40 theaters countrywide. Unfortunately, the project will only be airing for one day on October 2nd. However, there will be two special viewings on October 1st at one location in New York and one in Los Angeles The documentary features rare interviews from members of Nas’ family, people who helped construct Illmatic, plus much more. A few months back Nas debuted this documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival in NYC to mark the 20th anniversary of his debut album. Nas: Time Is Illmatic gives an in-depth look into the journey of Nasir Jones’ childhood, his musical influences, and how the streets of Queensbridge inspired the young rapper to craft a hip-hop classic. “It was trying to make the perfect album,” Nas says. “I gave you what the streets felt like, sounded like, tasted like.” Hit the jump to watch the new trailer and see the tour sate list to find out when Time Is Illmatic is coming to s city near you.

In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of his seminal debut album Illmatic, Nas held a contest inviting fans to collaborate and produce the official music video for “Represent,” an influential track off of the classic release. This is the first video ever made for the track and was shot at the YouTube Space Los Angeles.

To continue the the 20th Anniversary celebration of Nas’ debut album Illmatic, Nas held a contest for fans to collaborate and produce the official music video for “Represent,” a track off of the classic release. Following the direction of filmmaker Jason Goldwatch, contest winner, Brian Katz and Nas shoot the video in YouTube Studios out in California with a thief of Baghdad concept in mind.

After Kanye West performed for Dave Chappelle last week at Radio City Music Hall as part of Chappelle’s NYC comedy tour, the comedian has now also had the NY legend, Nasir Jones, perform at his show last night.
