XO Rapper Belly Signs To Roc Nation

Canadian rapper Belly has been in the game for a minute now, dating back to an album titled The Revolution that he released way back in 2007. Since then, he’s worked a lot behind-the-scenes, and more recently, linked up with and forged a bond with fellow Canadian, The Weeknd. Together, the pair co-wrote six of Weeknd‘s songs – including his smash “The Hills” – and now, Belly is ready for the big leagues. His new deal with Jay Z‘s Roc Nation imprint will certainly help. “I think I just got the right ears with it to the point where Jay Z was interested and heard it and invited me over,” Belly tells Billboard. “And we had a conversation and that was that, you know? A man’s handshake, that’s all it takes sometimes.”

Before Canadian singing sensation The Weeknd was The Weeknd, he was just a young man named Abel Tesfaye who came from a family of Ethiopian immigrants. On the latest installment of Before They Were Famous, we get an inside look into the trials and tribulations that The Weeknd went through before he was a known celebrity with his current level of fame and success. After his father abandoned the family at a young age, Abel was raised by his grandmother mostly. When he realized school wasn’t quite for him, he teamed up with fellow XO member Lamar to drop out of school and pursue their careers in the music industry. When it was brought to his attention that another Canadian act went by the name The Weekend, Abel just remixed the name a bit and dropped the “E,” hence why he spells it odd. After dropping his “House of Balloons” mixtape for free when he was only 21, he started to get major media attention after Drake acknowledged him. The New York Times shortly after picked up the story and ever since then, The Weeknd’s music career has been buzzing. Watch the full video below to see Abel’s transformation process!


Beyonce Sued For $7 Million – Background Singer Claims She Stole “XO ”

The Queen Bey is being sued by one of her former background singers for $7 million. The singer has accused Beyonce of stealing his music for the hit song ‘XO.’ Beyonce brushing off the claim asking the court to dismiss the case and that the defendant receive nothing.
