It’s been more than two months, but the difficulty of losing last year’s NBA Finals still weighs on Miami Heat forward LeBron James.

Speaking at a Nike event in Spain this weekend, James told Hoopshype.com editor Jorge Sierra that after Miami bowed to Dallas in six games, he “did nothing” for a week. “It was the worst week I ever had,” he said. “I hate losing.”

James did, however, say he disagreed with the perception that the season was a failure for the Heat because they did not win a championship, given that it was his first season playing with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami and that the Heat featured a raft of new players. The Heat did earn a trip to the Finals by knocking off the Celtics and the top-seeded Bulls in the East — with both series wins coming in five games.

“For the most part we accomplished a lot of things that we wanted to accomplish,” James told the website. “We didn’t accomplish our ultimate goal and that is to win the NBA championship, but for a team to come together for the first year, and get through what we got, and to do some of the things what we did with all the scrutiny and media coverage that we had throughout the season, I think it was a successful season.”

James was also asked about the loss of popularity he’s suffered from fans around the league in the wake of his decision to leave Cleveland for Miami. A Harris poll released in July showed that James was not on the list of most popular athletes, after having ranked sixth the previous year.

“At the end of the day I can only try to be the best basketball player I can be, and be happy with that,” James said. “My friends and family and the people who know me, they know the type of guy I am. For me, that’s the most important thing.”
