Daniel Sanchez, 24, darted out of an office at the jail during a fingerprinting procedure about 6:30 p.m., said city Department of Correction spokeswoman Sharman Stein.

But Sanchez – who had been busted earlier in the day for tampering with a window in his cell at the George Motchan Detention Center – was soon apprehended by an army of correction officers, Stein said.

Three captains and six officers were hurt trying to subdue Sanchez, who is being held at the facility without bail on first-degree murder charges, officials said.

Staff members were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
