This is a sad story of a girl in the military who was found dead with a bullet wound to the head. According to the military examiners she committed suicide. Her parents could not believe her daughter did this to herself, so they started to investigate on their own. After digging her body up for another autopsy it was revealed that their daughter was raped, beaten and set on fire. Obviously there was foul play here. Midtown Films is currently producing The Silent Truth, a documentary which tells the story of nineteen year-old U.S. Army Private LaVena Johnson, who was found dead on the military base in Balad, Iraq in July, 2005. The United States Army ruled her death as a suicide resulting from a self-inflicted M-16 rifle shot wound.
Through interviews with Ms. Johnson’s parents, Dr. John and Linda Johnson, this documentary tells the story of a family’s struggle to find the truth, and to secure justice for their daughter. Dr. Johnson has maintained that from the day his daughter’s body was returned to him, he had grave suspicions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
