On the same day it launched its new Drive cloud storage service, Google on Tuesday also took a step toward further integrating its social network across the Web, introducing a new Google+ Share button.
Similar to the Facebook share buttons that can already be found all over the net, the new Google+ Share button allows website owners to help Google+ users more easily share the site’s content on Google’s social network. It joins the existing “+1” button, which allows Google+ users to show that they like a particular page or article. Google says the new share button is good for content that users might want to share, but not endorse with a “+1” – such as news or controversial items.
“When your visitors come across something interesting on your site, sometimes you want to encourage a simple endorsement (like +1),” Rick Borovoy, product manager for Google+, wrote in a blog post Tuesday. “Other times, however, you want to help visitors share with their friends, right away. Today’s new Google+ Share button lets you do just that.”
The button sports a light gray background with a red Google plus logo alongside the word “Share.” When a user clicks on the button, they have the option of adding a comment, then sharing the content with specific people, or Circles, in their network. After being clicked, the button inverts its colors, switching to a red background with light colored text.
The Google+ Share button can be added to any website with code available at Google’s Developers site. Will you be adding it to your site?
