Simpson, who gained at least 40 pounds during a marathon, 11-month pregnancy, also has reportedly inked a $3 million dollar deal to promote Weight Watchers.

Though Maxwell may be worth her weight in gold, Simpson’s deal with People falls short of the $6 million the publication reportedly paid Jennifer Lopez for photos of her twins in 2008 — or the $3 million actor Matthew McConaughey pocketed for selling photos of his newborn son to OK magazine the same year.

“The market for celebrity babies simply doesn’t exist anymore,” Jo Piazza, a journalist who has chronicled how famous people make money, told the blog Fashionista. “Magazines realized that it doesn’t benefit them to pay over a million.”

Simpson, meanwhile, is using her money to shower little Maxwell with presents.

“I’m addicted to buying headbands w massive flowers for Maxwell on etsy,” the gushing mom and “Fashion Star” mentor tweeted Friday. “She is insanely beautiful I can’t help but play dress up!”
