The 86th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is coming up, and this year’s new balloons don’t disappoint.

A trio of new balloons — including cartoon characters from the past and present — will soar high above the city streets as part of Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Papa Smurf, the legendary patriarch of the small, blue animated characters, will make his debut at this month’s parade, as will Hello Kitty, the popular Japanese cartoon. They will be joined by Elf on the Shelf, a Christmas character.
The three new balloons were given a secret tryout Saturday in New Jersey to ensure they will be ready to take their rightful places at the parade’s Central Park West starting line in less than two weeks.
