The medical examiner in New York City is currently reviewing over 800 rape cases due to possible DNA errors. According to reports, a lab tech could have mishandled important evidence in the cases. Thus far, 26 of the over 800 cases have been found that the techs didn’t gather all the DNA possible. The cases in question span over ten years from 2001-2011. Read more below.

The tech has since resigned in 2011, but her identity is still unknown. In seven of the cases, full profiles were developed as far as DNA. In two of the cases, the DNA has been linked to someone already convicted or suspected of the rape in question. In one case, the new DNA profile matches a convicted offender. Hopefully the review brings closure to the cases that needed and truth to the ones that need it.
