IFWT-Alex-Smith

Colin Kaepernick has taken over and QB Alex Smith is on his way out! Apparently a trade is pretty much done, but any trade can’t be official until free agency and trading open up on March 12th. There’s still a lot of time between now and then and anything can happen, but check out where Smith is headed according to reports…

CBS’s Jason La Canfora reports that the 49ers have been telling other teams that the deal is all but complete, and both San Francisco and the mystery suitor view it as “effectively done.”

NFL.com’s Ian Rapaport also says it’s “all but done,” and names the Chiefs as the team that’s shown the most interest in trading for Smith (the Jags are apparently not interested). With their hearts apparently set on Texas A&M OT Luke Joeckel with the first overall pick, getting a QB through trade allows them to address their myriad issues through the draft.

Jason La Canfora of CBSsports.com reported Sunday that a trade for Smith is “effectively complete.”

Ian Rapoport suggested that Kansas City likely will add Smith in addition to drafting a “developmental” quarterback in the later rounds. Acquiring a free-agent signal caller would allow the Chiefs to address other needs with the No. 1 overall pick, which could be Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel.
