Trayvon Martin
George Zimmerman’s defense team is attempting to paint Trayvon Martin in a negative light using anything they can. Zimmerman’s lawyers wants to use not only school records and pictures, but old texts between Trayvon and his friends as evidence. The legal team wants to call the texts and more into evidence to attempt to put Trayvon on trial to help Zimmerman’s defense. The text messages include some in which Martin’s friend calls him a “weedhead” and others that talk about him fist fighting in school. Prosecutors say that the “evidence” including a picture of Trayvon with gold teeth are “pertinent evidence” to show “stereotypical and close-minded thinking.” Read more about the texts that the defense wants to use below.

One eerie text exchange between Trayvon and his friend includes a warning to Trayvon saying “Boy don’t get one planted in ya chest.” The text messages are from about three months before Trayvon was shot and killed and also talk about him getting suspended from school for fighting. The same friend also told Trayvon he was “turning into a lil hoodlum,” in which Martin responded “not at all.” Trayvon wrote, “I lost da 1st round 🙂 but won da 2nd nd 3rd.” about a friend who was “snitching” on him. Later text messages include someone asking Trayvon if he wanted a gun, specifically a a 22 revolver.

The only text messages that might be cleared for use as evidence in the case against George Zimmerman might be the one about Trayvon and weed since Zimmerman said that Trayvon was “acting high” in his 911 call. The judge will have the final decision as to which, if any, text messages or images can be used during the trial.
