This is why athletes should not smoke weed. Cause a few minutes of a buzz can affect your future, and the money you can bring in. Arizona Cardinals rookie Tyrann Mathieu, aka the Honey Badger from LSU, signed his contract with the team this week. For a 3rd round pick, the contract is pretty nice. $3 million dollars over four years, not too shabby at all. Just goes to show you what the Cardinals think of his talent. However there is a big stipulation in that contract as well, and Mathieu only has himself to blame. See what it is after the jump.

Mathieu was a standout on the field in college at LSU. He was even a finalist for the Heisman trophy 2 seasons ago. But his continous use of marijuana, and synthetic marijuana eventually got him thrown out of school. The Cardinals are aware of those issues and set up the contract accordingly. Mathieu will be paid the majority of his money over the four years, instead of most of it upfront. That is because in order for the contract to remain in tact, he will face many drug tests over the next few years, with as much as 10 tests per month! The rookie does not have a problem with that and has been open with the team about it. He is already in the NFL’s drug program, which will mandate tests happen at any random time. I am not sure if Mathieu is an elite NFL talent, but hopefully if he stays out of trouble, he will get his chance to prove it.
