Chris Bosh

The Miami Heat lost game 1 to the San Antonio Spurs and one of the major topics was Chris Bosh’s shooting.  As a center he’s expected to have a more active presence in the paint but he continued to try long range shots many of which he missed.  When asked about it Bosh says he going to keep shooting.  Read more after the jump.

Bosh was 0-4 in three pointers in game 1 including a late game attempt on a controversial pass from Lebron James.  Bosh finished the night with 13 points shooting 6-16 from the field and defended his decision.

“They can give (those shots) to me, and I’ll take it,” Bosh said. “I’ll take any open shot. I just missed a couple. I think one was a bad shot. I probably could’ve had a better option, but if they want to leave me open then that’s cool with me.

“I’m not going to compromise my whole body of work off of one series or two games, or three games, or half a season for that matter. You know, I just have to capitalize on situations. Sometimes you’ve just got to make shots. I understand that. You have to have the confidence and, really, the know-how to just be able to let it go and move on to the next possession and the next shot.”

“I shot four of them (three-pointers) yesterday,” he said. “I’m sure I’ll be open again in Game 2 — probably going to shoot those, so no (he’s not rethinking it).”

The Spurs indeed left Bosh open to take those three’s and as they hoped, he missed them.  Bosh is also correct however as his three point shooting has risen from  28.4% in the regular season to 42.9% in the playoffs.  Unlike many other bigs, Bosh’s mid range jumper and three point shooting is a part of his game but he’s going to have to attack the post playing a team like San Antonio, especially when the Heat already has shooters like Ray Allen and Mike Miller to cover the perimeter.
