I can’t imagine this happening to me, much less when I was sixteen. A Canadian junior in high school, known as Ebony Oshunrinde but goes by WondaGirl in the studio, got lucky. Find out how she created the beat to ‘Crown’ after the jump.
WondaGirl has been producing music inspired by Jay and Timbaland since she was 9. She is self-taught from YouTube, and won Toronto’s Battle of the Beatmakers when she was only FIFTEEN. She got signed by Black Box when she won. She created a beat and sent it to her buddy Travis Scott, who happened to be in the studio with Jay at the time. Turns out he was really feeling the beat because it ended up creating ‘Crown’ in the final cut. She got the phone call a few days later from Travis, who told her he was about to change his life. Now that’s some young talent! I don’t know if high school can even get any better than that.
I wonder how much she got paid.
