36 lives were taken and 200 were injured after clashes in the night streets. Egypt’s political unraveling left people frantic and left no room to meet at middle ground. Security increased near a large number of Morsi supporters due to worries that violent acts could start up again.

The decision to bring in ElBaradei, 71, gave the administration a chance to make its case to Washington and other Western allies trying to reassess the policies of Morsi, which backers call a “coup”. As of now, Morsi continues to be under detention in an undisclosed location.

Morsi supporters plan to take to the streets until he is reinstated.

The US State Department called Egyptian leaders to stop using force and prevent further fatalities of their supporters.
