Lorde turned Katy Perry down when the ‘Roar’ singer offered her a spot opening on her world tour.
The ‘Royals’ singer decided to go out on her own instead of supporting Perry; but for good reason.
Lorde tells Australian radio station KIIS 1065 in an interview Friday, “In the really early stages of an artist’s career, it’s important for them to establish themselves for themselves.”
She continued by saying, “I’m just basically really stubborn and I want to be really independent,” she explained. “So I want to be headlining my own shows instead of supporting someone else. Which I think is fair enough.”
Lorde kicked off her own solo tour in March selling out dates all over the U.S.
Perry, instead brought on other musical acts for her opening slot, including Icona Pop and Kacey Musgraves.
