You just had to know somewhere in the background of the whole Steve Kerr fiasco, James Dolan had to be lurking right? Now it seems that may be true according to reports. People around the NBA were shocked when Kerr turned down Phil Jackson and the Knicks after thinking it was a done deal. Now there is word that Dolan never wanted him to begin with but wasn’t going to tell Phil Jackson no. Instead he just played with the years and money offered on the contract. Eventually Kerr opted to stay on the west coast where he lives and takes 5 years/$25 million from the Warriors. Hit the jump.

Via Bleacher Report:

Kerr’s deal with Golden State is expected to be for five years and $25 million. The Knicks, meanwhile, were only willing to offer him four years—this, after begrudgingly upping it from three. Reports were that obviously Dolan could pay him whatever he wants as there is no salary cap for coaches but because he told Phil he wouldn’t interfere in basketball decisions, he did the only thing he could do. Be cheap. He did that in hopes Kerr would make another decision and he did. Now the Knicks are in a scramble to find someone respectable to coach.

Good Job James.
