Wafer is 55 years old and McBride was only 19 years old. Described in the courtroom, Wafer said he was asleep in his recliner chair when around 4:30am McBride, which he didn’t know then, wondered to his house and started banging on his front door and side doors.

Frantic and scared, Wafer said he grabbed his shotgun, opened his front door and fired one shot through his screen fearing they were an intruder.

Asked by the jury, Wafer admitted to not looking outside to see who it was but claimed it was for the fear of revealing his position in the house.

What caused McBride to bang on Wafer’s door?

According to a friend that testified, McBride and friend were drinking vodka and smoking marijuana earlier that night, around 1 am.

The night apparently went on to McBride getting into an accident involving a parked car and her attempt to flee the scene. Clearly battered and bleeding from the accident McBride escaped neighbours’ plea to wait for an ambulance.

McBride ending up disappearing for a couple of hours before then appearing at Wafer’s house where the incident took place.

So tragic

Wafer was convicted of manslaughter, second-degree murder and felony firearm.

On the conviction the prosecutor, Kym Worthy, said,

“We are obviously very pleased with the jury verdict and feel that justice was served today, we sincerely hope that this brings some comfort to the family of Renisha McBride.”

Prayers go out the the family of McBride for a tragic loss
