When it comes to Aldon Smith, it is hard to pinpoint which exact offense he is being punished for. He has let himself get caught up in so much nonsense the past few years, eventually it was going to catch up with him. The NFL announced today that Smith will be suspended the first 9 games of the season and the 49ers will be without one of their best defensive players. Hit the jump.

The league was not specific about which incidents Smith is being punished for but it’s likely the move is tied to Smith’s recent plea deal in Santa Clara, CA.

Smith already did a small stint in jail and was suspended for five games last season. The 49ers had no problem then going 5-0. Smith is truly one of the best young players in the entire league but he needs to get his head on straight.

He was already arrested for DWI and also charged for firing weapons on his property during a party which led to someone being injured. Hopefully he will be focused after the suspension.
