Kenyon Martin spent the past two seasons with the New York Knicks and there were rumors that he was interested in returning but his playing days may be over for a spot further up on the bench.

Former NBA All-Star Kenyon Martin met with the Rockets in Houston on Friday, primarily to discuss a possible coaching staff role, league sources told RealGM.

Martin also participated in basketball activities on Friday, giving some Rockets players the impression that he still intended to play this season, sources said.

Nevertheless, the Rockets have discussed a coaching position with players — a development-type role.

Martin, 36, averaged 19.8 minutes, 4.3 points and 4.2 rebounds in 32 games last season. The 6-foot-9 forward has averaged 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds in a 14-year career, in which he became a decorated finisher with the Nets.
